The WCHM Canoe Shop

On The North End...

of the Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum building is the WCHM Canoe Shop, a 2,500 square foot facility designed to celebrate the rich legacy of canoe craft and dedicated to keeping the tradition of wooden canoe building alive. The mission of the WCHM Canoe Shop is to develop a space where visitors can watch canoe crafters building new and restoring old canoes, and where classes on paddle building, canoe building, seat caning and other topics can be held.

The canoe shop operates year round and has been used for classes on canoe building, restoration, paddle building, seat caning, canvassing and even snowshoe building. In addition, the canoe shop is open to members at the $100 Voyageur level (and above) for their own personal projects (upon approval of their project by the shop committee). Strongback or canoe work space is rented at $75-60/month and other materials costs may be involved.
